Erick Bohlman represents clients from the United States and abroad in entertainment-related matters. Mr. Bohlman’s significant representations have included clients in the music, film, television, radio and publishing industries whom he has represented in high-profile lawsuits, as well as complex and multi-million dollar negotiations with most major label and prominent independent recording companies, national multimedia broadcasting entities (Emmis, Infinity), established cable television networks (Comedy Central, VH1, MTV), international publishing houses (Random House) and various arts-related labor unions (SAG, AFTRA, AF of M).
Erick Bohlman's clients have included members and former members of platinum recording groups (Marilyn Manson, Cream, Filter, Third Eye Blind); solo recording artists (Billy Squier, Ginger Baker, Zim Zum, Donita Sparks); house music icons (Vince Lawrence, Trax Records); notable alternative performers (L7, The Webb Brothers, Material Issue, Wesley Willis); best-selling author of business publications (Geoffrey Smart); and a hall-of-fame radio personality (Steve Dahl). Mr. Bohlman has also served as production counsel for several feature films including Last Man Running, directed by Damon Santostefano (Three to Tango, Bring It On Again) and starring Rick Gomez (Band of Brothers) and Mary Stuart Masterson (Fried Green Tomatoes, The Stepford Wives); Stricken, starring Jamie Kennedy (Scream and Fox TV’s The Jamie Kennedy Experiment); the Annoyance Theater’s Fatty Drives the Bus (Troma Entertainment) and John Covert’s Waiting for the Man (Panorama Entertainment/ Artist View).
Additionally, Mr. Bohlman provided legal services in connection with the development and production of the Comedy Central television series The Sweet Spot starring Bill Murray; the organization and promotion of large-scale entertainment events including concerts of pop icon Elton John and opera luminary Jose Carreras; and the bringing to life of the “Ozz Monster” (a fire-breathing monster truck) which was prominently featured at Ozzy Osbourne’s Ozzfest music extravaganza in 2002. In conjunction with his work activities, Erick Bohlman has regularly lectured and published on matters related to entertainment law; including copyrights and trademarks, film financing and production, rights of publicity, media law, television and radio broadcasting, and legal aspects of music publishing and recording. Mr. Bohlman continues to serve on the adjunct faculty to several universities where he teaches graduate and undergraduate courses in entertainment law and related subjects. Mr. Bohlman's article on digital sound sampling is the first law review article published on that controversial topic since the courts first addressed the issue in 1991.
